Here's a pictorial of my brew day today for your enjoyment. I brewed a partial mash version of Ceannt's Traditional Irish Red Ale.
This is the recipe thread that resulted in what I brewed and this is the original recipe I converted to a partial mash.

Heating strike water. Since I did a 10 gallon partial mash I was able to use my 5 gallon MLT so I could heat all strike and sparge water on my stove. This is one of the reasons I did a partial mash. I have a few things to work out before doing a full 10 gallon AG batch.

My seriously rigged pump. That's getting changed for the next brew day. I'm thinking quick disconnects to start with.

Better than I thought. Turbulent flow caused the "cone" to be stretched from the center in an oblong pattern to one side. Time will tell how clear it turns out, but there was quite a pile of break and hop debris in the bottom. And I didn't let it settle but about a minute between recirc and run off to the bucket.

its the light proteins you have to worry about, they get cut up and dont settle. the hops and heavier stuff always settles out. but as long as the wort was clear then you shouldn't have any trouble. and either way you will have beer.

I'm new to the clear wort thing. Until the last two beers I just dumped (litterally picked up the kettle and dumped) everything into the fermenter. This is why I'm guessing the Wicked Angel came out wicked cloudy. Like apple freakin' cider cloudy. I don't think I would call the wort today clear, but I don't have a very good baseline for reference either.

clear wort is literally clear. you could pour it in a glass and read a newspaper on the other side. if it's cloudy, then the hot break material is still in suspension.

Then I had hot break material still in suspension.

It still took about 20 minutes to chill. It used to take 30 with occasional stirring, so the pump has improved things for sure. But I want more. :-((

A little hot break won't hurt you ... and is actually good for the beer ... and should settle out in a long primary ... a lot is a different story ....
